The Lansdowne Heracles

The Lansdowne Heracles, an ancient Roman marble statue depicting the hero Hercules, about 125 CE.
This statue is a Roman replica based on a Greek original created around 350 B.C., likely by a pupil of Polykleitos.

The figure is in a contrapposto, an asymmetrical pose where one leg is straight (weight-bearing) and the other is slightly bent, creating an "S" curve in the body and a natural, relaxed look.

This relaxed pose is great for beginning to study the human form as well as for quick gesture drawings and long detailed studies.
