Drawing basic forms and objects

Mastering drawing in volume begins with breaking any complex subject down into simplified three-dimensional building blocks. Here we're learning how to draw simple forms and also starting studying more complex forms through this perspective.

Together with the main model you'll have 2 main tools: structure and volume lines. The "volume lines" belong to the actual model, while the "structure" reflects underlying simplified frame. Although both tools are there to help you switch in perceiving the model as a 3D form, there's no need to repeat all of them in your drawing, choose the once that look more helpful for you, you are in control here!

Drawing human head

Here we’re studying the form of the human head and its variations. In this step along with "volume" and "structure" tools, we have one more tool: art anatomy. It shows bones and muscles that play important role for each model. Building a solid understanding of the underlying structure helps perfect your portrait drawing skill!

Drawing human body

Here you can study general structure, proportions and anatomy of the human body starting with simple poses and moving to more complex and dynamic poses. There are two anatomy tools: skeleton and important for defining the form muscles.

Depending on your goal, you can do quick gesture drawings with the focus on movement and general proportions, or stick to longer more detailed study of the human body.
